A 3.6-Mile Uphill Climb to Fight Cancer
(Truckee, CA) – Auburn Ski Club is proud to be hosting the 36 th annual Squaw Mountain run on Saturday, July 30 at 9 a.m. in Squaw Valley. The run benefits the Gene Upshaw memorial Tahoe Forest Cancer Center and the Auburn Ski Club training programs.
Organizers are anticipating hundreds of runners and hikers to come out to enjoy a great workout with stunning views of Lake Tahoe and the High Sierra. Starting at the base of Squaw Valley USA, the course will climb the 3.6-mile mountain run to High Camp, an elevation of 8,200ft.
Those interested can choose to run, hike or Nordic walk the course. If you’re looking for an easier way to participate, you can choose to take the cable car up and
join knowledgeable guides for the flower walk. Once you make it to the top, there will be awards, a raffle, music, light refreshments and beverages will also be provided. Also at the top (High Camp at Squaw Valley) representatives from Salomon, Darn Tough and
Tahoe Mountain Sports will be on hand offering FREE shoe and equipment demos for anybody to try out in the field. Every person that tries a pair of Salomon shoes, will receive a free pair of Darn Tough socks to walk away with regardless of purchase.
Race registration before July 1 is $40 for adults and $25 for juniors. Fees will increase, as the event gets closer, with day of registration costing $65 for adults and $50 for juniors. Registration is currently open online at truckeerunningseries.com, racers can also register and pay their entry fees with cash or check at Tahoe Mountain Sports, daily 10-6 at 11200 Donner Pass Rd in the Safeway Plaza. Tahoe Mountain Sports will offer 10% off any full price items purchased at the time of registration 20 percent of the funds raised from the event will benefit patients at the
Gene Upshaw memorial Tahoe Forest Cancer Center. For many involved the event has become a way to celebrate life following personal struggles with cancer or in memory of a loved one that may have been less fortunate. In the last six years since Auburn Ski Club took over the event over $20,000 has been raised to support these efforts. The reaming funds support the Auburn Ski Club’s children’s Nordic ski programs in the Truckee, Tahoe, and Foothill communities.
