Feature Writers are paid based on the negotiated rate established before publishing stories. All feature stories must be original works and exclusively published in Sierra Rec Magazine.
STORIES/PAYMENT: Stories will be accepted on speculation. Most stories range from 500 to 1,500 words. Payment is on publication and varies with article length and quality. We prefer to establish a flat rate with writers if possible. Sierra Rec Magazine does not pay expenses (travel costs, etc.). It is important to note that payment could take a month after publication to get processed and mailed to the writer.
When your story is approved for publication, manuscripts will be sent via e-mail. Stories should include a suggested title and byline. In addition, your name, address, phone number(s), and e-mail address should be at the top of the story.
The editors reserve the right to edit all material.
DEVELOPING STORY IDEAS: Stories in Sierra Rec Magazine are written from personal experience and research. We offer our readers an authoritative, authentic look at the Sierra Nevada Mountain region. You do not have to live here, but doing a story based solely on web research is rarely enough to get a query accepted. Please consider Sierra Rec Magazine’s structure and format when developing your ideas.
