Are you planning a trip to the great outdoors with the family soon? Keep the kids busy and get them to enjoy nature more with these fun activities for your next family camping trip!

Embark on a Nature-Filled Scavenger Hunt

An excellent way to get your kids to comb through their natural surroundings and look for interesting finds is by tasking them with a scavenger hunt! A scavenger hunt turns searching through nature into a competitive game and something everyone can do. Some examples of things you can scavenge for include:

  • A scented flower
  • Butterflies
  • Ladybugs
  • A heart-shaped rock
  • Something smooth to the touch

Take a Family Hike

Get in touch with nature and enjoy some exercise with a family hike! If there’s a body of water nearby, take a journey to go swimming or pack some food for a picnic stop along the way!

If it’s been a while since your last trek, it might be a good idea to train for your next hike to keep up with the young ones and not feel sore the next day!

Start a Botanical Scrapbook

On your next camping trip, consider starting a family botanical scrapbook! Have your kids stop and collect unique plants, flowers, leaves, and whatever else they find they like in the surrounding area to save and remember!

You can save them in a scrapbook with labels of what they are, where you found them, and who found them. Years later, you can return to the scrapbook, look back on the beautiful nature you saw on your trip as a family, and enjoy the memories!

Collect Unique Rocks and Shells

Do your kids like collecting rocks and shells? Start a collection on your next trip! If you’re camping near a sandy, rocky, or shell-filled beach, have the whole family search for a unique rock or shell they like and start a collection.

Come together and compare everyone’s choices—why is that rock their favorite? Where’d they find it? If you’re not by a beach, you can still discover some interesting geological finds you’ll want to keep!

Stargaze Around the Campfire

If you own a telescope, bring it along on your next trip and break it out while everyone’s huddled around the campfire roasting s’mores. You don’t need a telescope to stargaze, though; the great thing about camping is you get away from the city’s light pollution and see all the stars with the naked eye!

Make a game of who can glimpse the first shooting star. Or bring along a star map or use a stargazing app on your phone to look for constellations and come up with stories about the mythical creatures and figures!

Few experiences beat getting away from it all and enjoying the great outdoors with the ones you love the most. Hopefully, these fun activities for your next family camping trip will make it special!
