In 2018 a small section of the East Walker river basin was transformed from an area where trespassing was routine to a protected well managed day use and overnight camping site along the river basin. Surrounded by canyon walls and shorelines lined with 10 feet tall willow bushes, day user s and campers can find dark skies at night and privacy on the river from other visitors.
We took our first day use visit out this way recently and really found a great place to chill on the banks of the river and take in the canyons around us. Located approx. 9 miles from the turn off of Hwy 308 between Smith Valley and Bridgeport. The Elbow is a family friendly location for desert camping.
