Puffy Outdoor Blanket Provides Layer of Warmth and Comfort in Sierra Storms
Sierra Rec Magazine ~ Product Review March 2018 – Who doesn’t like a good outdoor blanket? We recently picked up the Sneaky Snuggler Puffy Quilt Blanket from Montem Outdoor, and it has quickly become the blanket all others are compared to in my home. Perfect for getting outdoors be it camping or keeping warm after a day in the mountains, this new blanket is simply cuddle worthy. The Sneaky Snuggler comes in 9″ x 17″ Stuff sack and looks a bit like a sleeping bag in the bag, I love the Slate with Red Trim Color combo. Pulling the blanket out of the bag it immediately screams soft and cozy, and I found myself cuddled up in my lazy-boy quite comfortable long before my first outdoor adventure with this blanket.
Test environments we encountered with this blankets, included a late February snowstorm in the Sierra, a great day trip snowshoe adventure with my wife and weekend away with my family to Zion and Bryce National Park.
The Sneaky Snuggler is only rated at 40+ which is a bit shocking as we never felt like we were cold even is the variety of cold weather environments. The size of the blanket invites you to wrap it around you or you and your partner as you play and relax in the outdoors. It measures at 54” by 80” and the 3D Hollow Fiber Synthetic Insulation adds a pleasant puff feeling to the blanket.
My first real test for the Sneaky Snuggler blanket involved a late winter storm in the Sierra and an expedition to explore a lost trail up near big meadow in Alpine county. I was only on a quick day trip so I didn’t pack the blanket on the hike but immediately grabbed it once I was back at the car as I peeled wet layers off in the constant snow falling. As I waited for friends at the car the blanket easily covered my large 6’3 frame and kept me dry from the snow without my jacket. Like a warm cup of hot chocolate, the blanket was simply comfortable.
The tougher test would come the next week as my wife and I escaped for a little mountain fun up near Truckee. She is always cold and winter sports constantly challenge her in staying warm. This time I packed the blanket with us as we snowshoe, and pulled it out when we stopped for a quick bite. Wendy was not much for sharing as she cuddled up in the large blanket to stay warm. Needless to say, she kept the blanket until we got home as the snow was not so deep that she needed poles. I think she approved.
The sneaky snuggler is probably a bit too large to take backpacking even though it weighs just 3lbs, but I can’t wait to take it tent camping this spring and it is certain to be a family favorite lounging in the tent or sitting around the campfire early in the morning.
On our last test, we took the blanket with us to Zion National park and Bryce Canyon for my sons spring break. My 19-year-old son proceeded to steel this blanket from me for the weekend and was found cuddled up with the blanket and a book each evening in the cabin we had rented. Needless to say, this blanket is well liked in our family and I think I now have a gift Idea for the boy for his birthday.
