Exploring the Rubicon Trail
Our adventure begins with the renowned Rubicon Trail, a classic hike that offers a taste of everything this park has to offer. As we start our journey, you’ll immediately notice the trailhead just off the park’s pristine beach. From there, it’s a leisurely descent along a well-maintained path with plenty of rock formations and a canopy of trees to provide refreshing shade.

Parking
Begin your adventure by parking near the entry gates of DL Bliss State Park. We decided to kick off our journey by taking a shortcut trail, bypassing the initial stretch that starts directly off the beach at DL Bliss. The trail predominantly descends and offers abundant natural rock formations and tree coverage along the way. This 4.5-mile hike will lead you to the exquisite Vikingsholm Estate. Be prepared, though, as the return trip to your vehicle is a challenging uphill climb with a vertical gain of over 1000 feet.
Besides getting to Emerald Bay and taking a swim in Lake Tahoe our favorite parts of this hike were the multiple locations on the trail where the color blue in the water and picture worthy locations along the trail just make you stop and wonder if it could get any better.
Also what we learned on the way back is the hike out to the old Light House, found on the route we skipped on the way in is a great location and the trail around there is spectacular.
