Public Notice: Mandatory Fire Evacuation Notices Issued in Hume Lake Area
Hume Lake Ca, Aug 18, 2015 – The Rough Fire has made its way south and crossed over Highway 180, so effective immediately the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office has issued mandatory evacuation notices to people in the area of Hume Lake. This stands to impact approximately 1,000 people living, working and recreating around Hume Lake.
The California Highway Patrol has also moved the road closure, which had been located at the intersection of Highway 180 and Hume Lake Road. The new road closure now sits further south on Highway 180 at Grant Grove Tree (approximately 2 miles north of the Hwy. 180 and Hwy. 198 interchange). The roadway will remain closed until authorities determine it is safe to reopen.
The Sheriff’s Office wants to make the public aware that no one will be allowed to enter the Hume Lake area; people will only be allowed to exit.
The Rough Fire started on July 31st due to a lightning strike. To date, 23,600 acres have burned and there is 0% containment .As a reminder, there will be a town hall meeting
today at 6:00 pm. It will take place at the Dunlap Community Center, 39489 Dunlap Rd., Dunlap, CA 93621. The public is invited to join representatives from the U.S. Forest Service and other agencies to discuss the current and future activity of the Rough Fire.
Closures & Advisories:
- Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks issued a closure of the Cedar Grove area.
- Sierra National Forest issued a closure order for the Rough Fire Area.
- Sequoia National Forest issued a closure order for the Hume Lake and Monarch Wilderness.
- Black Rock Campground and Forest Road 11S12 (also called Black Rock Road) is closed between Balch Camp and Sawmill Flat.

No campfires are allowed within the Sequoia National Forest and Giant Sequoia National Monument.
