Lassen National Forest Almanor Ranger District to Host Guided Snowshoe Hike on Friday March 4
CHESTER, Calif., February 22, 2015 – Lassen National Forest’s Almanor Ranger District will offer its next guided snowshoe walk on Friday, March 4 at the Almanor Ranger Station on Route 36. Participants should meet at the Almanor Ranger District Office at 12:15 pm. The hike will take place at the McGowan Cross Country Ski Area on Route 89, and participants will enjoy views of Lassen Volcanic Park and Mount Conrad.
“This snowshoe hike will cover a longer distance and steeper terrain than other hikes we’ve organized this year,” said Almanor District Recreation Officer Stacy Kronner. “We will probably have a 300-400 foot elevation gain, and roughly a two-mile walk.”
Attendees must be at least eight years old, and minors must be accompanied by an adult. Snowshoes are available free of charge, but cross-country skiers must provide their own equipment.
All interested parties must contact Stacy Kronner in advance at (530) 258-5162 or srkronner@fs.fed.us to register.
