Just north of the Sierra and Lassen Volcanic National Parks is a location once described as the eighth wonder of the world. McArthur-Burney Falls State Park in California is one of those destinations that should be on everyone’s bucket list and if you travel state route 89 from Shasta to Lassen Volcanic National Park regularly, I just don’t know how you don’t stop by every chance you get. This section of Route 89 is part of the Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway which connects Lassen Volcanic National Park, Crater Lake Or and The Redwood in Northern California in an incredible scenic loop.
Burney Falls is a magical place that to me transports me to another place on earth. The beauty of this waterfall is unmatched in our region and the science behind its existence is truly a wonder to learn. Park of the Clark Creek Drainage area into Lake Britton the park features a nice loop hike around the falls, Pioneer Campground and heritage markers for the region.
