Explore Gardisky Lake

A Hoover Wilderness Adventure Hike

Hoover Wilderness Hikes – This is a Steep Short hike just outside of Yosemite national Park near 20 lakes basin.

When we say steep, think where would you want a horse or mule to get there. This trail is basically straight up the side of the mountain for almost a mile. The trail to the Lake is 1.2 miles from the parking area off 20 Lakes Basin rd. The trail has loose rock and roots showing and the incline feels like 23% plus grade at times. Gardisky Lake is set at 10’502 feet and the trail gains 750 feet over a one mile section of the hike making this a difficult hike.

The Lake is set in a meadow with flowing water out both sides of the lake. Views on the Eastside to Tioga pass and Lee Vining Peak are well worth a walk around the lake.

View from the Gardisky Lakes trail

The open, sunny meadows near the lake give views of Tioga Peak and to the west, White Mountain on the Yosemite National Park boundary. Overnight trips to the Gardisky area require a wilderness permit for the Saddlebag Lake area.

This is a popular fishing lake with Brooke and Brown trout fishing from the shores.
