THREE RIVERS, Calif. September 2, 2021 – Sequoia Parks Conservancy is excited to share the eighth annual Dark Sky Festival happening September 10, 11, and 12. This year’s festival will be held online with live and recorded events, and no programs will take place in the parks. About the Festival – The Dark Sky Festival is the largest night sky festival in Central California. In previous years, the festival has taken place in various locations throughout Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks including the Foothills, Mineral King, Giant Forest, Lodgepole, Grant Grove, Cedar Grove, as well as Lake Kaweah in Three Rivers. This year, the virtual festival will offer programs such as online tours, a virtual stargazing session, guest speakers, interviews, videos, and more. The festival will be hosted on the Sequoia Parks Conservancy website at https://bit.ly/DarkSkyFestival. About the Night Sky The night sky of Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks is nationally recognized. The darkness not only adds to the beauty of its natural landscapes, but also contributes to the health of wildlife. As most of the world is faced with the effects of artificial light pollution, the Dark Sky Festival aims to educate people about the importance of preserving natural darkness and inspire them to take action in their own communities. We hope you join us for the eighth annual Dark Sky Festival and share your passion for the night sky and astronomy. More information will become available www.sequoiaparksconservancy.org and on the Conservancy’s social media accounts @sequoiaparksconservancy. About Sequoia Parks Conservancy Sequoia Parks Conservancy is the official nonprofit partner of Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks and Lake Kaweah, working hand-in-hand with the National Park Service to support projects including trail improvements, educational programs for the public, and the protection of wildlife and their natural habitat. |
