Feb. 28 – Meet Legendary Snowshoe Thompson Snowshoe Trek
Whether your a history buff or just a snowshoe enthusiast looking to meet people who like snowshoeing, the Tahoe Rim Trail Association is providing a guided snowshoe tour Saturday Feb, 28 2015 in honor of the famous Snowshoe Thompson.
Space is limited on these guided hikes and the TRTA asks that you preregister for the event online.
Here are the details provided online for this Trek.
Distance: 2 – 3 miles
Description: This is a fun snowshoe for history buffs and the entire family. During this special snowshoe event, you will be crossing “Snowshoe” Thompson’s winter tracks over which he famously carried the mail for two decades in the mid-1800s back and forth from Genoa, Nevada to Hangtown, California. You will meet and follow “Snowshoe” himself in the person of costumed Chautauqua performer Steve Hale of Comstock Characters. Bring your imagination and be prepared to be transported back to the winter of 1865.
Due to low snowfall, this snowshoe trek is subject to change into a hike with the use of snow boot chains.
