2023 Update May 15, 2023 – Today they have started the plowing on Bucks Lake Access roads. because of the heavy snow pack in winter 2023, opening dates for the lake will be delayed. Please check with forest Service road openings before planning trips to the lake in May. The wilderness Area and seasonal recreation areas are open in winter conditions at this time. Updates here

Plumas National Forest – May 15, 2020 – News broke yesterday by the Plumas News that the road to Bucks Lake is officially open from both both Quincy and Oroville.
Bucks Lake is located on Oroville-Bucks Lake Road, 17 miles southwest of Quincy or 32 miles northeast of Oroville. Bucks Lake is a high mountain lake surrounded by the Bucks Lake Wilderness on one side and recreation residences/resorts on the other side. The area offers year-round recreation opportunities, making it a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts.

Getting there
From downtown Quincy, take the Bucks Lake Rd. for 17 miles. From Oroville, you have the choice of two alternate routes. You can either take Hwy 70 east through the Feather River Canyon to Quincy and then follow the Bucks Lake Rd. to the lake. Or, from Oroville, take Oroville Dam Blvd., turn right on Olive/ Hwy 162 and follow it to the lake. This route is only open during the summer months after the road is plowed.
Covid-19 Restrictions Still in Place
Mt. Hough Ranger District and Bucks Lake Recreation Area remain open. hiking, fishing from banks of lakes and many other activities are still available. All recreation sites except for trails have been temporarily closed. Local managers are committed to the health and safety of recreational visitors and our staff. The Plumas National forest is following the guidelines from our agency and the CDC regarding COVID-19, closely monitoring the situation and responding to current conditions.
Plumas county did promote last week a mandatory Mask wearing policy for all individuals in public. Obviously Stay at home orders are currently in place. Know the local restrictions before traveling.
