In a message to athletes who have qualified in these championships, US Ski and Snowboard CEO Tiger Shaw says, “You are following the footsteps of many great athletes. As a USSA athlete, you are part of an organization with a Best in the World vision. The Junior Championships are an opportunity to show family, friends and your USSA club that you’re ready to move up the ladder and achieve greater goals.”
This Junior Championships will be the fourth hosted by Auburn Ski Club Training Center on Donner Summit since 1971. Ten skiers on the 16 member FIS World Championship team that recently competed in Falun, Sweden, raced on the ASC courses at the 2005 or 2009 junior nationals. Many of the athletes competing will go on to race at the NCAA collegiate level.
Despite a record low snow season organizers have designed a challenging 2.5km distance course and 1.3km course for the sprint competition. According to Glenn Jobe, event Chief of Course, “In early February, after weeks of no snow and record high temperatures we began an aggressive snow storage and snow moving project. The 2.5km course will be up to standards for the fierce competition during the week.” Course Maps
“Support for the XC National Championships has been fantastic” reports Kelly McElravey, event co- chair. “The Nordic community and businesses in Truckee and North Lake Tahoe have joined with us as sponsors to help make this a successful event for over 400 athletes, plus coaches and spectators from all over the U.S.“
Auburn Ski Club Training Center is located on Donner Summit adjacent to Boreal Mountain Resort.
ASC will host the US Biathlon Association National Championships March 19-22.
