A Beautiful Hike to rather uninspiring lake? How to best describe the this small lake in the Humbolt-Toiyabe national forest which has plent yof visitors drawn there for dispersed camping, mountain biking, fishing, kayaking, and day hiking.
Scotts Lake is settled in between Waterhouse peak and Stevens Peak on the West side of Hope Valley south of Luther Pass. Trail access is found at the Big Meadow trail head off the Tahoe Rim trail and Mtn Bikers can access through Hope Valley or various roads on the Eastside of the lake.
Dispersed camping is allowed seasonally can is accessed through a series of dirt roads out of Hope Valley.

Day hiking to Scott’s ake is a beautiful hike that will include very little elevation gain, several very nice Aspen groves providing great color in the fall, big meadow and various sections of Forest meadow highlights, old growth timber sections and several areas of peak view points.

The trail head for most hiking travelers is off Luther Pass on the Tahoe Rim trail heading south to Big meadow. Just before the meadow the trail breaks to the left and follows the meadow up the valley. Out and Back is approx 6.1 miles round trip. I would rate this hike as easy with roughly 950 feet elevation gain from trail beginning over 3 miles.
