84 Celebrities ready to tee it up July 12-16th at Edgewood Golf course in South Lake Tahoe
Lake Tahoe NV, June 10, 2023 – We are only weeks out from the 2023 American Century Championships in Lake Tahoe and the field of players is starting to take shape. Several new faces will be hitting the links this year in Tahoe including Las Vegas Raider receiver Devante Adams making their debuts on the course with the likes of Superbowl MVP Patrick Mahomes and Basketball Icon Steph Curry. They will battle with returning Champion Tony Romo as 84 celebrities will tee it up in Lake Tahoe July 12-16th at Edgewood Golf Course.
Several Mainstream Newcomers will be in the filed in 2023. Joining Las Vegas Raider Devante Adams will be NY Jets Head Coach and Former 49er Robert Saleh, NFL Great JJ Watt, comedian Nate Bargatze; Mike Golic, former NFL lineman and radio personality; Alex Killorn, forward with the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning; Zach LaVine, All-Star forward with the NBA’s Chicago Bulls; Baker Mayfield, quarterback with the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The tournament’s format and setting perfectly complement the informal Tahoe vibe among players and gallery as evidenced by the setting along the beachfront par 3, 17th hole. Fans on boats line the hole from tee to green to enjoy good-natured bantering with the players as they shoot free throws at the temporary basketball hoop adjacent to the tee box and toss footballs and souvenirs to the assembled gathering. Last year established a record attendance of over 67,000 making memories during a week of luminaries, golf, spectacular scenery, and a vibrant nightlife
scene at the Stateline casino/resorts.
The tournament will feature more than 80 sports stars including Hall of Famers from the NFL, NBA and MLB, active and retired players and Hollywood actors, comedians and entertainers. The three-day, 54-hole event includes a $600,000 purse, with $125,000 going to the winner, plus a charity component for local and national non-profits. Three-time champion Tony Romo will be back to defend his title, captured last year on the second hole of a three-person playoff.
34 Years and Counting
Now entering its 34th year, the American Century Championship is a made-for-TV event owned and broadcast by NBC Sports. The premier celebrity golf tournament, which also raises funds for local and national charities, distributes a purse of $600,000. The tournament is a 54-hole modified Stableford format that features some of sport’s and entertainment’s greatest celebrities.
In April NBC Sports and the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority announced their continued partnership with the American Century Championship, golf’s premier celebrity tournament, with a contract extension through 2026. What’s emerged over the past 34 years as a magical blend of sports and entertainment celebrities golfing, competing and celebrating along a spectacular Lake Tahoe setting will remain a major attraction at the popular resort region for another four summers. NBC, which owns and will televise the July 14-16 tournament, and Visit Lake Tahoe, the destination marketing organization for the South Shore in California and Nevada, have been partners since the inaugural event in1990.
Two complementary, four-year extensions among tournament sponsors were also announced: with LTVA and Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course; also, between NBC and Harrah’s and Harveys Lake Tahoe as host resorts. American Century Investments, celebrating its 25th year as title sponsor this July, is currently engaged through 2024.
“Besides it being our largest special event of the summer, this tournament represents a special bond, trust and
friendship among the various partners: NBC, American Century, the LTVA, Edgewood, our resorts and the
local community,” said Carol Chaplin, President and CEO of the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority. “It’s impactful
as far as creating awareness, generating overnight stays and helping our economy, as well as its benefit to local
charitable initiatives. And it accurately reflects our brand of ‘Awe and then Some.’”Who is playing in 2023 American Century Championships
