Sierra REC Magazine – South Lake Tahoe – June 21, 2019- Heavenly Mountain Resort and Village kicks off the summer season with the opening of Epic Discovery on Friday, June 21, offering scenic, family-friendly and thrill-seeking outdoor activities for guests to explore and enjoy. This weekend summer on-mountain adventures start at Epic Discovery.

WHAT IS EPIC DISCOVERY?

Opening Day: Friday, June 21

The extraordinary vacation is only a gondola ride away where a variety of activities are awaiting your discovery. Learn and play with your family on our ropes courses, zip lines, mountain coaster, climbing walls, tubing, and guided hiking tours. Enjoy delicious burgers and BBQ for lunch at Tamarack Lodge surrounded by Tahoe’s unmatched scenery.

Heavenly has many ways to plan and enjoy your Epic Discovery Experience!

1) Ultimate Adventure Pass – The full day pass

2) Scout Sampler Pass -Pick 3 activities for the kids (under 42″)

3) Zip Tours – A  guided day gliding around the mountain

4) Or purchase a Gondola ride and choose an Individual Experience

Adventures on the Mountain include:

Camila Souza, Viviane P. Claro, Ryan Parker, Marina Abreu, and Suellen Sandri riding the Heavenly Flyer zip line at Heavenly Mountain Resort, South Lake Tahoe, CA.

BLUE STREAK ZIP LINE –

Enjoy incredible views of Lake Tahoe as you glide through the sky on Heavenly’s two parallel 3,300 ft-long zip lines. With top speeds of 50 MPH, this is a great way to experience the most spectacular views in the area with a starting elevation of around 10,000 feet. Activity Restrictions: Closed-toed athletic shoes are required for all activities. Must also purchase a Scenic Gondola ticket or Ultimate Adventure Pass.

RIDGE RIDER MOUNTAIN COASTER

This gravity-powered alpine coaster will exhilarate you and your family as it coasts through forest and natural rock formations. As always the views are incredible and the memories will be too! The coaster sleds fit up to two riders, so you can enjoy this activity with others. Activity Restrictions: Drivers must be at least 16 years old (if accompanied by a passenger), between 54 – 84″ tall. Closed-toed athletic shoes are required for all activities. Pass Options: Book as part of the Ultimate Adventure Pass and Scout Sampler Pass

HOT SHOT ZIP LINE

Four parallel zip lines accessed using Big Easy Lift. This experience is 1000 feet long reaching speeds of around 30-40 mph. Activity Restrictions: Closed-toed athletic shoes are required for all activities. Pass Options: $20 add on to Ultimate Adventure Pass, per zip, per person

ROPES COURSES

A variety of courses and obstacles for all types of groups and adventurers. Get an introduction to the challenges of high ropes courses or push yourself to a new level!

BLACK BEAR ROPES COURSE – The Black Bear Ropes Course has medium-sized features that are a great starting point for explorers who are new to ropes course challenges. This course is ideal for families with younger children, smaller participants, or first-timers. With a variety of routes to choose from, this ropes course will inspire the most daring guest and build an appetite for adventure. The course ends with a 30-foot controlled descent. Pass Options: Book as part of the Ultimate Adventure Pass

BOULDER COVE ROPES COURSE – The Boulder Cove Ropes Course, located at the bottom of The Gondola stairs, is designed for the explorer in pursuit of a greater challenge. Featuring two levels, this course allows participants of all skill levels to progress to a higher, more challenging ropes course experience. Pass Options: Book as part of the Ultimate Adventure Pass Activity Restrictions: Participants must be over 42″ tall, weigh between 30-250 lbs, and be at least 5 years old. Participants between 42″ and 54″ tall must be accompanied by an adult. Closed-toed athletic shoes are required for all activities.

GRANITE PEAK CLIMBING WALL

The climbing wall is an exhilarating man-made rock wall inspired by the iconic rock formations found in the Sierra Nevada mountain range. The permanent wall utilizes auto-belays and is 25 feet tall with 15 defined climbing routes varying in difficulty, so all ability and experience levels are welcome! Activity Restrictions: Climbers must be at least 3 years old and must weigh between 30-250 lbs. Closed-toed shoes are required. Pass Options: Book as part of the Ultimate Adventure Pass and Scout Sampler Pass

ZIP LINE TOURS

SKYWAY ZIP LINE TOUR A guided multi-hour tour set among the pines surrounding the mid-station observation deck of Heavenly’s Gondola. This will immerse you in the forest habitat with an array of zip lines and aerial bridges.

SILVER RUSH ZIP LINE TOUR – Open on Saturday’s and Sunday’s only This Zip Line takes guests from tree to tree at speeds of up to 40 miles an hour. Overlooking the high desert of the Carson Valley, the last zip line allows guests to gaze over the waters of East Peak Lake. The experience concludes with an ATV ride back to the top of the Gondola.

TUBING

Breeze down a thrilling 500ft-long hill, without snow or water! With our specially designed tubing surface, Heavenly summer tubing will have you smiling ear to ear. Once at the bottom, step on the carpet lift to take you back to the top! For those under 42″ tall, we have created a special tubing track. This course is banked and perfect for the young explorers. Book as part of the Scout Sampler Pass! Activity Restrictions: Participants must be at least 42″ tall for the main tubing course. Closed-toed athletic shoes are required for all activities. The Mini-Tubing is for those under 42″ tall. Pass Options: Book as part of the Ultimate Adventure Pass

Heavenly has also teamed up with The Nature Conservancy to create eco-discovery experiences at Heavenly to promote education and awareness of our unique environment. Interpretive Discovery Stations are integrated along trails and activities, and we offer guided hiking with knowledgeable and passionate guides. To ensure the health of our valuable forests, 1% of all Epic Discovery activity revenue will be donated to The Nature Conservancy for forest health restoration projects local to our resort community
