Truckee CA, June 29, 2023 – BCycle, an industry leader in electric bike share operations and equipment used in communities around the country, is thrilled to bring bike share to Truckee. Full access to the system opens June 29, 2023.
The initial phase of the new Truckee BCycle system will feature 50 pedal-assist electric bikes available for checkout from and to park at 100 docks which are clustered at stations throughout Truckee.
BCycle plans to introduce more docking stations throughout the community in future riding seasons. Stations will be located from Donner Lake to the Truckee River Legacy trailhead in Glenshire.
“We are extremely excited to be launching bike share in Truckee,” said Brian Conger, BCycle’s Executive Director. “Not only will it introduce a fun recreation option for residents and visitors but will also provide a convenient and eco-friendly transportation option for local commuters.”
The electric bikes, which feature a pedal-assist motor that propels riders up to a maximum assist of 17 mph, can be found and unlocked from docking stations using the BCycle mobile app. Riders can also use the BCycle app to plan bike-safe routes to their destination and find open docks to return their bike upon completion of their environmentally friendly trip.
The bike share system is scheduled to operate yearly from May through October, weather permitting, and will pause operations during the winter months.
“We should be able to cut back on the need for parking through a successful program,” said Council member Jan Zabriskie in a Sierra Sun article in March, who also served on the board that selected BCycle as the vendor.
BCycle operates nationally, including at other mountain towns like Boulder, Colorado; and Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
BCycle is committed to making Truckee a more bike-friendly community by providing safe and sustainable transportation alternatives and encouraging residents and visitors to give electric bikes a try. For more information, download the BCycle app or visit truckee.bcycle.com to learn more.

What are usage fees and how do they work?
Usage fees apply when any ride has elapsed over the initial ride time for the respective pass or membership purchased. The billing date for usage fees varies. For single ride users, usage fees are billed the following day after the initial ride is taken. For members, usage fees are billed as a total sum on the 1st of every month. If you are noticing a charge on a day you did not ride or on the 1st of the month, you likely accrued usage fees. Please call Customer Service with any questions or concerns regarding usage fees charges at 530-453-0509.
How Does BCycle Work?
Our bike share service operates predominantly via the BCycle app and is a dock-based system. This means that bikes can only be checked out of our docks and MUST be returned to any of our docking stations to end your ride.
Unless previous communication has been made, failure to return the bike to one of our docking stations subjects users to a $2500 bike replacement fee if the bike is stolen/damaged.
