Palisades Tahoe’s Base to Base Gondola A Game Changer for Tahoe Basin Skiers

In the world of winter sports, there are moments when nature aligns perfectly with human innovation, creating legendary opportunities. Such a moment occurred in December 2022 when Palisades Tahoe’s Base to Base Gondola was unveiled just in time for the record-breaking winter of 2023 in the Sierra. AS we stood by and watched the first chairs last December ascend into the mountain ski, we had already experienced a great beginning to an epic ski season. Little did we know that historic snow levels in lake Tahoe would follow up this epic event.

The Tahoe region has always been a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, with its breathtaking views, diverse terrain, and two iconic resorts – Palisades and Alpine. These two mountains have long held their places in the hearts of skiers and riders, each offering its unique charm. However, the age-old dilemma of choosing between the adrenaline-pumping steeps of Palisades or the laid-back vibes of Alpine became a thing of the past. In 2022, skiers in the Tahoe Basin and Olympic Valley said hello to the “Palisades Tahoe Base to Base Gondola,” an engineering marvel that seamlessly connected these legendary mountains, offering a new era of adventure for visitors.

One Connected Resort Experience

Traditionally, visitors to Palisades and Alpine had to make the tough decision of where to spend their day on the slopes. Now, thanks to the Base to Base Gondola, you no longer have to choose. These two mountains are now effortlessly connected, giving skiers and riders the freedom to explore all 6,000 acres of legendary terrain uninterrupted.

New Ways to Access Your Favorite Terrain

What makes the Base-to-base gondola truly unique is its ability to operate as one continuous lift or as two separate lifts from each base area to the top of KT-22. This flexibility opens up a world of possibilities for adventurers. Whether you’re a fan of Alpine’s impeccable top-to-bottom groomers or a seasoned expert in search of treasured bowls like Beaver Bowl, Estelle Bowl, and Grouse Ridge, this gondola ensures you have convenient access to your favorite terrain.

See the Sierra Like Never Before

The gondola is not just a means of transportation; it’s a sightseeing adventure in itself. Stretching across 2.4 miles and ascending nearly 2,000 vertical feet, the 16-minute journey is an opportunity to soak in the breathtaking Sierra views. Skiers on the Mountain can marvel at the sweeping vistas of the Granite Chief Wilderness, the glistening waters of Lake Tahoe, and the towering peaks of Palisades Tahoe. It’s a visual treat that adds an extra layer of magic to your mountain experience.

Alpine: The Laid-Back Paradise

For those seeking a more relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere, Alpine has it all. The Alpine Lodge is a cozy haven with a crackling fireplace, inviting benches to sip hot chocolate with friends, and massive windows overlooking the snow-covered slopes. On sunny days, the impressive sun deck is the place to be for some outdoor après-ski relaxation.

Alpine is also known for its spectacular views of Lake Tahoe. The aptly named Lakeview Chairlift ensures you have a panoramic view of the lake from various vantage points around the mountain. Additionally, don’t miss out on the hike-to terrain, the Alpine Lodge sun deck, and the fun of snow golf.

On the other hand, Palisades is where the adrenaline junkies thrive. With its progressive terrain catering to every ability level and a vast 3,600 skiable acres, Palisades has something for everyone. From mountaintop beginner slopes with stunning lake views to challenging chutes and wide-open bowls, this mountain has bred Olympic champions and ski movie stars.

The Village at Palisades Tahoe is the perfect base for those seeking a vibrant, slope-side experience. From convenient lodging options to coffee shops, wine bars, and gear outfitters, everything you need is just steps from the slopes. The iconic Tram Face, the sparkling Lake Tahoe, and the snow-covered peaks surround you with mesmerizing scenery.
