The Final Weekend of Longboard Racing in Johnsville will Take place March 17th. This Fun and exciting family event is a cant miss Sierra Classic.

Don’t miss this 150+ year tradition. 1860’s style 9-16′ wooden ski races in historic attire. $20 to race, free to attend. The Plumas Ski Club invites skiers, and the public to the Annual Historic Longboard Races held on the third Sunday of each month in January, February, and March at Plumas-Eureka Ski Bowl in Johnsville–home to the first downhill skiing competition in the western hemisphere, starting in 1861. There is a nominal charge to race, leather boots are required, and period-appropriate dress is encouraged. Spectators will enjoy food, music, and drink in addition to the exciting races. Spend the day at the birthplace of ski racing for a truly unique Plumas County experience!

Want to race but do not have the equipment? Rentals are available from the Plumas Ski Club. A limited quantity of Ski Club Skis are available. They are rented on a first-come, first-served basis. Fee $20.

Shuttles to the races are available through Sierra Adventure Monkeys

  • Longboard Race Day Shuttle Service Provided by Adventure Monkeys
  • 4×4 Shuttle Van, Running from 10 AM to 12 PM and from 2 PM to 4 PM on Race Days*
  • Shuttle initially makes rounds from the museum parking lot to the ski bowl parking lot, picking up folks at the museum parking lot and along Johnsville Eureka Lake Road (the road from Johnsville to the ski bowl parking lot).
  • If the museum parking lot becomes full at some point during the race day, the shuttle loop will extend to the cross-country skiing parking area adjacent to Jamison Mine Road. 
  • *Shuttle will not run during hazardous road conditions – check PSC social media posts prior to arrival to confirm whether or not shuttle is running on a given race day.

Johnsville Historic Ski Bowl

The Johnsville Historic Ski Bowl is located just above Johnsville, California. It resides in the Lost Sierra, the birthplace of ski racing in the western hemisphere, and the earliest documented ski lifts in the world.
