South Lake Tahoe, Ca – August 31 -2021 – The Caldor fire, driven by high winds and high fuel, blazed through Echo summit yesterday, down the slopes into Christmas Valley and late in the evening Jumped Highway 89 and started multiple spot fires on the Eastern edge of Christmas Valley.
Red flag warnings for today into tomorrow will make today a very challenging day in the Tahoe basin. Today the Caldor fire stands at 191,607 est. acres of burn. Expansions in the last 24-36 hours have active Fires in the Tahoe Basin as well in the Kirkwood region along Hwy 88.
Over 53,000 people have been evacuated due to Caldor Fire. Manty of the Evacuation services in Douglas County are full. Pop up evacuation services are popping up on Facebook. LifePoint Church in Minden has opened their parking lot for parking of RV and grass field for tents.
CURRENT SITUATION:
Overnight fire activity remained active throughout the northeastern and eastern areas of the fire due to poor humidity recovery. Crown fire runs and ember casting remained active covering distances of up to three quarters of a mile. Lower elevations of the fire saw strong down canyon winds that tested control lines in Divisions A and D. The current red flag warning remains in effect through 11:00 p.m. on 9/1/21.
To better provide public and firefighter safety due to extreme fire conditions throughout Northern California, and strained firefighter resources throughout the Country, the USDA Forest Service Pacific Southwest Region is announcing a temporary closure of nine National Forests. This closure will be effective on August 22, 2021, at 11:59 p.m. through September 6, 2021, at 11:59 p.m. The closure order can be found at https://tinyurl.com/USFSClosure.
The Us National forest of the State of California Yesterday closed all National Forests in the state until September 17th. Meaning all camp0ing Hiking and biking plans for Labor day weekend are canceled across the state.
