Constellation Creek Begins a New Chapter in the Heart of the Lost Sierra

Constellation Creek is the kind of place you slip away with your favorite person. Hang a hammock between the pines, slide a chair into the cool creek after a day on the trail, open a good book, and simply slow down for a while.

But it’s also a perfect basecamp for one of our favorite corners of the Sierra.

Located north of Truckee along the winding stretch of Highway 89 between Sierraville and Yuba Pass, Constellation Creek sits in the heart of the Lost Sierra—a region we’ve returned to time and again for the Sierra Buttes, Lakes Basin, mountain biking, fly fishing, hiking, quiet forest roads, and the kind of mountain towns that remind us why we fell in love with this part of California in the first place.

This week, the boutique six-cabin retreat announced a new chapter, welcoming new owners Jessica Barton and Ed Ryan while continuing the philosophy that has made Constellation Creek one of the Lost Sierra’s most distinctive places to stay.

Originally restored by founders Georgie and Sebastian Bisval, the former historic fishing lodge was thoughtfully transformed into a boutique mountain retreat that encourages guests to disconnect from everyday distractions and reconnect with nature. Rather than televisions and endless screens, cabins feature vintage record players, thoughtful design, and a peaceful setting where the creek often becomes the soundtrack for the day.

The new ownership team says preserving that atmosphere remains their highest priority.

“Georgie and Sebastian built something truly magical here, a place that invites you to slow down and reconnect with nature,” said new owner Jessica Barton. “Our goal is to honor that foundation while expanding how people can gather in the space. We look forward to continuing cabin rentals for overnight guests while stepping into the property’s next natural evolution as a premier destination for intimate wedding celebrations and group events.”

Beginning this summer, Constellation Creek will offer full-property buyouts for intimate weddings, elopements, retreats, and private group gatherings. Designed for celebrations ranging from 10 to 85 guests, the property offers couples and small groups an opportunity to gather in a secluded mountain setting while remaining within easy reach of Truckee, Lake Tahoe, and Reno.

The new group experience extends beyond weddings. Constellation Creek is also welcoming corporate retreats, wellness weekends, milestone birthdays, bachelor and bachelorette celebrations, and other private events looking for a relaxed mountain setting in the Lost Sierra.

Looking ahead, the owners plan to continue enhancing the guest experience with new communal gathering spaces, comfortable outdoor lounges, lawn games, an expanded Creek Store featuring local goods and outdoor essentials, and wellness-focused amenities including hot tubs, a cedar sauna, outdoor yoga decks, and additional places designed for guests to relax and reconnect.

Reservations for cabin stays remain open, and inquiries are now being accepted for weddings, retreats, and private events.

For those who have spent time exploring the Lost Sierra, Constellation Creek already feels like a natural fit among the forests, rivers, and mountain communities that make this region so memorable. Under its new ownership, the goal isn’t to reinvent what visitors have come to love—but to build on it while creating even more opportunities for people to gather, celebrate, and experience one of California’s most authentic mountain destinations.
