A Spirited Start to a Mountain Town Celebration
Every year, as the flags wave and parade crowds gather along the streets of Truckee, a familiar energy builds—not from fireworks, but from fast feet and community cheer. The Firecracker Mile is back for 2025, and it’s the kind of local tradition that captures everything we love about the Sierra on the 4th of July: outdoor fun, community roots, and a cause worth supporting.

A Mile Worth More Than the Distance
This isn’t just a race—it’s a kickoff to the day’s celebration and a chance to support the next generation of winter athletes. The Firecracker Mile begins at 9:40 AM on Thursday, July 4th, just ahead of the Truckee parade. Runners will dash along a lively, slightly downhill course from US Bank to Old Town, cheered on by hundreds of parade-goers already lining the route.
Whether you’re a competitive runner chasing a fast mile, a family jogger in star-spangled style, or a high-fiving spectator, this event brings everyone together. The best part? It all benefits the Auburn Ski Club Legacy Foundation’s junior scholarship fund, helping young athletes from the region pursue their skiing and snowboarding dreams.
“We are thrilled to host the Firecracker Mile once again this year,” said event organizer
Meg Seifert. “It’s a fantastic way for the community to come together, celebrate our
nation’s independence, and support scholarships for the ASC Training Center
programs. We invite runners of all ages and fitness levels to join us for this fun-filled
event.”
Why It Matters
Truckee’s mountain town identity has always been shaped by its passion for snow sports and its strong sense of community. Events like the Firecracker Mile celebrate both—raising scholarship funds while giving folks a reason to lace up and let loose on a holiday morning. The ASC Training Center, with support from the Truckee Chamber and Tahoe Mountain Sports, keeps the tradition strong.
