Just in time for a spring Sierra escape—Yosemite National Park has announced the official reopening of Glacier Point Road this Saturday, May 10, at 8 a.m., along with the return of Mariposa Grove shuttle service!

This is one of the most anticipated seasonal reopenings in Yosemite, offering visitors access to Glacier Point’s panoramic views, including iconic sights of Half Dome, Nevada Fall, and the Yosemite Valley floor. If you’ve never watched the sun dip behind the Sierra from Glacier Point, this is the year to change that.

A few important details for early visitors:

  • Glacier Point Road is open to vehicles, but drinking water is not yet available, so pack extra.
  • Vault toilets will be available at the trailheads.
  • Trails such as Sentinel Dome, Taft Point, and others along the road are still snowy, and hikers should come prepared for winter conditions—bring GPS, a paper map, compass, and traction gear.
  • The Four Mile Trail up from Yosemite Valley remains closed, though updates may follow soon.

Meanwhile, over in the southern section of the park, the Mariposa Grove shuttle will resume service on May 10 as well, making it easier for visitors to explore the grove’s giant sequoias , including the famed Grizzly Giant and California Tunnel Tree.

Weekend Yosemite Adventure Idea:

Make it a two-stop day—start at the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias, then cruise up Glacier Point Road in time for a high-elevation sunset. With fewer crowds than summer’s peak and dramatic snow-laced peaks all around, May is magic in Yosemite.
