Death Valley National Park – Place to See – Atop the highest point in Death Valley (11,049 ft), one can see for a hundred miles in many directions.
Adventurous hikers in Death Valley Start early in the mornings on a 7 mile journey up to the Tallest peak in the Park. Estimates for most hikers have this at approx. a 7 hour round rip hike with over 3000 ft of elevation gain.
The Trail
The trail to Telescope Peak begins from Mahogany Flat Campground at the end of Upper Wildrose/ Emigrant Canyon Road. The trail immediately begins as a steady climb along the eastern slope of the Panamint Mountains. High clearance and 4×4 are recommended for the final 1.5 miles to the campground. The road is steep, rough, and narrow. Hikers with low-clearance vehicles should consider parking at the Charcoal Kilns and walking the road to the trailhead.
Highlights of the Hike to Telescope Peak
On this adventure hikers will climb past Ancient Bristle Cone Pine trees, some est. over 5000 year old. Then have epic vista views of Badwater basin (-282 feet below sea level ) to the East and the the Eastern sierra Mountain Range and MT Whitney (14,505 feet) the highest point in the continental US.
