Plumas National Forest – Now Accepting 2025 Applications for Camp ground Hosts

If spending your summer surrounded by pine-scented breezes, quiet mountain mornings, and starlit evenings sounds like a dream—you might just be the perfect fit for a campground host role in Plumas National Forest.

The U.S. Forest Service is now accepting applications for volunteer campground hosts for the 2025 summer season. Not only will you enjoy the incredible beauty of Northeastern California, but you’ll also earn a FREE America the Beautiful Volunteer Pass (a $80 value!) when you complete 250 volunteer hours. That pass gives you access to hundreds of national parks and federal recreation sites across the country.

“If you’re enthusiastic about camping and like people, this may be a perfect summer activity,” said Dave Brillenz, District Ranger for the Feather River Ranger District. Host duties include, but are not limited to, welcoming visitors, sharing news and information about recreational opportunities in the area, and light campground maintenance. Hosts must provide their own self-contained RV or trailer and personal vehicle.

Available Campgrounds for 2025:

  • Whitehorse Campground
  • Greenville Campground
  • Gold Lake 4×4 Campground
  • Wyandotte Campground
  • Sly Creek Campground

As a host, you’ll greet and assist visitors, answer questions, maintain campground facilities, help manage reservations, and coordinate with Forest Service staff for repairs and other site needs. In exchange, you’ll be provided a dedicated campsite—your summer basecamp to explore the lakes, trails, and hidden gems of the Northern Sierra.
