Ranger-Led Snowshoe Hikes in Lassen Park Southwest Area Each Weekend in February and March
Lassen Volcanic National Park – January 31, 2023 – This weekend kicks-off the annuals ranger lead snowshoe walks at Lassen Volcanic National Park. Join a ranger-led snowshoe hike now through March and explore the wild, red fir forest environment off-trail. A ranger will demonstrate how to put on your snowshoes and how to move safely on the snow. Once basic techniques are covered, the group will head out into the snow for a one to two mile hike of moderately strenuous terrain. The exact route can vary with snow and weather conditions.
“As a beginning snowshoer a few years back i joined this ranger lead program through the Red-Fir Forest. It was a great experience and added to my thrill of being in this magical place for the day.” Charlie Pankey, Publisher Sierra Rec Magazine

When are the Guided Walks
Guided snowshoe treks begin each Saturday and Sunday at the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center, located at the Southwest
Entrance via Hwy 36. These Free Guided Hikes begin at 1:30pm and are approximately two hours long. Since the hikes do not follow a distinct route or visible trail, rangers are not able to accommodate late-comers. Hikes may be canceled at the last minute due to extreme weather conditions. Please call 530.595.4480 ahead to check on conditions.
A free ticket* is required to participate. Pick-up a ticket the day of the hike at the information desk inside the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center. We do not
take reservations. Tickets are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis beginning at 9:00am the day of the hike. Space is limited. Sometimes weekends can be busy especially holiday weekends. We recommend arriving before 11:00am to secure a ticket.

What to Bring
Snowshoes are provided only for the ranger-led activity. Snowshoers are allowed to bring their own snowshoes for the trek and enjoy the park after or before the tour. Donations are welcome and support snowshoe maintenance. Appropriate clothing and footwear is recommended — water-resistant hiking or snow boots, layered clothing, water or wind resistant outer layer, hats, gloves and sunglasses. Snowshoe hikes are open to individuals eight years of age and older. Children in carriers are not allowed due to safety concerns.
