The Next Generation Prepared Backpacking Food Company RightOnTrek Provides Maximum Taste in Curry Dish
Sierra Rec Magazine – Gear Review – I am a pretty simple backpacker. I like ease, convenience and not a lot of extra fluff. So when I was introduced to Rightontrek backpacking meals all I really wanted to know, is does it taste good? Lucky for me the answer was yes and I have been using a few of their products ever since. I recently returned from a backpacking trip in Yosemite where I tried out their Hearty Morning Coconut Granola and their Hearty Beef Bolognese which will both be ordered again. So when I got a call from one of their reps about reviewing a couple of their items on our channels I was all over it.
I received the Chicken Coconut Curry meal along with the Cheesy Mushroom Egg Scramble and was pumped to get a chance to check out these flavors before my next backpack trip into Desolation Wilderness.
I packed the dog up and headed up to a lake for the evening packing my Jet boil so I could try the curry for dinner.
Chicken Coconut Curry
I love meals that have a little spice to them. Curry is always interesting because the spicy is not like Jalapeno spice, instead it is a combination of spices that make an impact on your teste buds. Well the Chicken Coconut Curry from Right on Trek delivers on impact and taste. The Chicken Chunks are meaty and delicious and the rice cooked up in three minutes light and flaky.
The seasoning on may prepackaged backpacking meals can be a bit heavy on the sodium. I was delighted to have a meal with appropriate amounts of seasoning and salt. With 580 calories the package size was perfect for one person, although my dog believed she needed a few bites as well.
This will be a meal I pack on my next trip. It didn’t leave that fake after taste you sometimes get with these meals and there was no left overs or over stuffed feeling because I ate too much. Plus with all those spices i was worried I might burp it all night long, which I did not. Over all a great bite to eat.

One Con you Should be aware of with these meals
There is one con for backpackers or campers who are used to using the foil bag meals. Clean-up is required. I have had approximately 6 meals now from this brand and my one complaint is clean up. there is almost zero chance at leaving 100% no trace when you need to clean your dishes. That might be splitting hairs here, because they are so much better in ever other department. But when I have to wash food out of my Jet boil I don’t know of an way to discard the dirty food water and leave no trace. I am working on a strategy for this, but on my last visit i found my self in a place where water was scarce and I needed to wash my pot, but also conserve my water. I would be very interested in learning what others are doing to solve these riddles. Leave me a comment below if you have a solution.
