Discover SCARPA’s Latest Innovations in Trail Footwear, Leveraging 85 Years of Expertise
Standing out in a category like hiking and mountain footwear where there’s clearly so much great product available means not just using the best materials, but looking at new technologies and complementary ways to combine them. The goal is to create something that’s not just new and different but that truly raises the bar. In its Spring 2024 line, SCARPA integrates technologies like its Bascula Adaptive System (BAS), which allows the sole to adapt to changing terrain, maintaining better ground contact in the process, and RECCO, which makes hikers more searchable, into new hiking and mountain products like its Moraine and Zodiac families.
New Spring 2024 Scarpa Hiking Line
Moraine WP and Moraine Mid WP
Moraine WP and Moraine Mid WP — From premium materials and a cushiony, stable platform to the integration of a system that helps in the event of an emergency, the updated Moraine WP shows how careful attention to detail yields versatile trail footwear that’s more than the sum of its parts. SCARPA’s design team assessed every aspect of how to build a versatile, lightweight hiker that yields comfort, support and traction in a nimble, great-looking package. On the upper, the Moraine pairs a premium oiled nubuck leather with a 100-percent recycled synthetic mesh fabric and a PFAS-free waterproof membrane for weather protection. In the midsole, a dual-density EVA midsole integrates nylon inserts for support as well as an externally molded TPU heel counter for stability. Underneath, SCARPA’s PRESA outsole has excellent traction thanks to SuperGum rubber. The Moraine family also integrates a RECCO reflector, an early-to-market technology in the hiking category, which makes the wearer searchable in emergency situations. Long known amongst skiers for its search function in the event of an avalanche, RECCO in recent years has become a valuable tool for search-and-rescue teams, many of which now use a helicopter-deployed RECCO detector as part of a search network that continues to grow. Available in low cut and mid cut versions, as well as men’s and women’s fits. $169 and $179 mid.
Zodiac Trk GTX — The new Zodiac Trk GTX pairs the stability and
traction of a mountain boot with the much lighter weight of a
midweight hiking boot, creating footwear that’s super adept for any
kind of on- or off-trail travel. Key to its performance, the Zodiac Trk
uses SCARPA’s Bascula Adaptive System (BAS) technology, a design
that creates different density zones in the PU midsole. This allows the lugs on the sole to independently adapt to changing terrain, maintaining better ground contact in the process. A molded external heel counter helps increase rearfoot stability, working hand-in-hand with the BAS system. Other details include an oiled 1.8 mm Perwanger Nepal Suede Leather upper, which is made using aspecial tanning process to increase water-repellency durability and breathability, and a protective rubber toe rand. 1 lb 7 oz (1/2 pair size 42). $349.
Zodiac Tech GTX — A favorite of mountain guides and rescue
professionals around the world, the updated Zodiac Tech GTX sets the
standard for lightweight, technical mountain boots — perfect for
situations when an approach shoe isn’t enough and a traditional
mountain boot is too much. Weighing in at 1 lb 8.7 oz, the Zodiac Tech
fuses technically precise fit with a durable, weatherproof design that
handles everything from a long approach to summit snow slopes. Key to
its performance, the Zodiac Tech uses SCARPA’s Bascula Adaptive
System (BAS) technology, a design that integrates different density
zones in the PU midsole. This allows the lugs on the sole to
independently adapt to changing terrain, maintaining better ground
contact in the process. A molded external heel counter increases
rearfoot stability, working hand-in-hand with the BAS system. The oiled 1.8 mm Perwanger Nepal Suede Leather upper is made using a special tanning process to
increase water-repellency durability and breathability. Other details
include a protective rubber toe rand, an extended stretch mini gaiter
around the ankle, and a crampon compatible heel platform. $369.
Mescalito Planet — The Mescalito Planet bridges the line between
approach and light hiking in an eco-conscious package. With an
upper, midsole and toe rand made using recycled materials, the
Mescalito Planet also ups the innovation with a single-piece Perspair
fabric upper, which is lightweight, super breathable and incorporates
PU Tek inserts for added abrasion resistance in critical zones. This
recycled-yarn upper is so durable there’s no need for a protective
rubber rand. The Vibram Megagrip sticky rubber outsole uses LiteBase technology, a construction that minimizes the thickness of the sole’s base to trim weight without reducing durability or traction.
The dual-density EVA midsole is 45 percent recycled material. $219.
