If you’ve ever spent a spring weekend wandering the wooden boardwalks of Virginia City, you know the town leans fully into its historic character — and St. Patrick’s Day might be its most spirited celebration of the year.
On Saturday, March 14, the historic mining town will once again turn green for a full day of food, music, and festivities, highlighted by the 35th Annual Rocky Mountain Oyster Fry, one of the most unique culinary events in the West.

What to Expect
Rocky Mountain Oyster Fry (10 a.m. – 4 p.m.)
Amateur and professional cooks compete for titles like Best Overall, Most Creative, and People’s Choice, serving up inventive takes on the event’s signature dish. Guests can sample entries throughout the day and cast their votes for their favorites.
A limited V.I.Baller ticket option is also available, offering guaranteed samples from every entrant, a commemorative medal, reserved seating, three drink tickets, expedited check-in, and access to a dedicated viewing area.
St. Patrick’s Day Parade (Noon)
C Street fills with floats, musicians, and costumed participants celebrating Irish culture and small-town tradition. Visitors are encouraged to wear festive attire and join the fun.

St. Paddy Made Me Do It Saloon Crawl (Starts 11 a.m. | 21+)
One of Virginia City’s most popular annual events, the crawl takes participants through historic saloons for themed drink samples and voting for favorite stops. Designated drivers can also participate with non-alcoholic options and sweet treats.
Live Music, Costume Contests, and More
Irish music and lively entertainment continue throughout the day, creating a festive atmosphere across the historic district.
Make a Weekend of It
Early spring is a great time to explore Virginia City beyond the festivities. From museums and historic tours to scenic views of the Virginia Range, the town offers plenty to experience while crowds are still lighter than peak summer season.
