Make your Way To the Carson Valley this next week for annual Eagles and Ag Celebration
Carson Valley Nevada – January 19, 2023 – Next week will kickoff a week long celebration of Farm Life and Raptor Winter feeding in the Carson Valley. An annual tradition for locals, and visitors who love to photograph wildlife, the Carson Valley is going to be stunning location next week and the Winter storms look to clear out for most of the week. Although Eagles and Large predatory birds can be seen roadside every day in this season, the Carson Valley chamber and Visitors association really does a great job of working with local farmers and business owners to put on a great event schedule for guest.
Here is the 2023 schedule of events. some events require tickets and may already be sold out, but it is worth checking the options out if your are visiting.

Tours & Event Details:
Thursday, January 26 – Opening Reception & Photography Exhibit: $30 per person – From 5:30 – 7:30pm Help us kick off the weekend back at the Douglas County Community Center dinning room. The event features the work of area wildlife photographers and there is an expected visit from several falconers and their birds for up close viewing. Have a glass of wine and an hors d’oeuvres or two while you meet fellow enthusiasts.
Friday, January 27 – Wetlands Tour: $85 per person – Tour time is 8:00am-11:00am (Attendees need to arrive at 7:30am for check-in). There are a number of beautiful wetland treasures in the Carson Valley featuring large numbers of waterfowl and migrant birds. We’ll visit a few great spots with hopes of catching some of these unique birds. A short hike on level ground is part of this tour. As in all the tours, spotting scopes, binoculars and/or cameras are recommended.
Friday, January 27 – Guided Hike of the Local Area: $45 per person– Tour time is 1:30pm to 4:30pm. Our guides will take on you hike of local trail along the Carson River to view habitat of deer, beaver, ducks, geese, fish, pond turtles and all sorts of bird types. An easy hike of a few miles.
Friday, January 27 – Eagles & Agriculture Falconers’ Dinner: $85 per person – From 5:30pm to 8:30pm. We’re finalizing our Ag speaker and a number of area falconers and their birds are scheduled to join us as well. Of course, the great dinner provided by local caterers doesn’t hurt, and there’s exhibits from Carson Valley Photo Club for attendees along with a raffle. This event will be hosted at the CVIC Hall in downtown Minden.
Saturday, January 28 – Eagle/Ranch Tour: $105 per person – Tour time is approximately 8:00am to 11:30am (Attendees need to arrive at 7:30am for check-in). The pinnacle of the Eagles and Ag weekend, participants of this tour will enjoy a private “behind the scenes” look at area ranches. Learn about Carson Valley ranching, conservation and have an opportunity to view/photograph eagles, hawks, owls and other birds of prey. At the conclusion of the tour, enjoy a wonderful lunch and historic presentation at the Carson Valley Inn. Eagle/Ranch Tour leaves from the Carson Valley Inn.
Saturday, January 28 – Owl Prowl & Historic Barn Tour: $85 per person – Tour time is 1:00pm to Dusk (Attendees need to arrive at 12:30pm for check-in). Visit historic barns on area ranches and view owl habitat. Weather permitting, one of our local falconers will provide a demonstration of the sport of falconry. Owl Prowl & Historic Barn Tour leaves from the Carson Valley Inn.
Saturday, January 28 & Sunday, January 29 – Photo Workshop: $125 per person Saturday evening classroom seminar taught by long time Northern Nevada instructor Craig Moore from 6:00pm to 9:00pm; Sunday from 7:00 to 10:00 AM you will be outdoors in the Carson
Valley to photograph area wildlife/scenery under the tutelage of Carson Valley wildlife photographer John Humphrey. The workshop will be held at CVIC Hall in Minden on Saturday and the group will be going to the field on Sunday morning, also leaving from the Minden
CVIC.
Sunday, January 29 – Raptor Highway and Byway Tour: $85 per person – Tour time is 8:00am -11:30am (Attendees need to arrive at 7:30am for check-in). Normally on Friday afternoon, this tour has been moved to Sunday morning this year to take advantage of better lighting for photography, more raptor opportunities and less traffic congestion. This promises to be s special Sunday drive around the Carson Valley with great photography and local lore. Supplemental tour for those interested in the Buteos, Accipiters, Falcons and other birds which commonly winter in Carson Valley. As in all the tours, spotting scopes, binoculars and/or cameras are recommended.
