Regarding family adventures, there’s nothing quite like a day in the Eastern Sierra’s June Lake Loop. With my kids, aged 8 and 5, in tow, our Saturdays are often filled with outdoor exploration, laughter, and the pure joy of being surrounded by nature’s wonders. This Saturday, we embarked on an unforgettable journey to June Lake, a place that promises the perfect blend of early morning fishing, a delightful lunch in the charming village, and endless possibilities for family fun.
Early Morning Fishing at Silver Lake:
Our adventure began as the sun kissed the mountain peaks and cast a warm glow on the serene waters of Silver Lake. It was time to introduce the kids to the magic of fishing. As we set up our gear, their eyes sparkled with anticipation, eager to feel the tug of a fish on their lines. The beach at Silver Lake is a fantastic spot for this family-friendly activity.Â
The kids cast their lines into the tranquil waters, and it wasn’t long before their giggles filled the air. We marveled at the stunning views around us as we patiently waited for a catch. Fishing from the shore allowed us to soak in the beauty of the lake while bonding over shared excitement. It was a simple yet priceless moment of connection with nature and each other.
Lunch at Alpine Deli and Pizza Co: A Flavorful Pause
Amid the colorful autumn backdrop of June Lake village, our family’s appetite beckoned us to Alpine Deli and Pizza Co. Inside, the scent of fresh bread and bubbling cheese welcomed us, setting the stage for a delightful meal. We ordered sandwiches with fresh ingredients and personal cheese pizzas with golden, crispy crusts. As we savored each bite and shared stories of our day, we realized that this charming deli had filled our stomachs and created a cherished memory of a family lunch in the heart of the Eastern Sierra.
Exploring the Colors of Fall:
The Eastern Sierra is known for its captivating fall foliage, and we couldn’t resist exploring it. Our kids, already excited about Halloween, chatted about their plans for trick-or-treating while we reveled in the vibrant colors of the aspen trees surrounding June Lake. It was as if the forest had adorned itself in costumes of gold and red, preparing for its own autumn celebration. We couldn’t help but join in the festivities, taking countless photos and making lasting memories.
June Lake Beach:
Our adventure continued with a visit to June Lake Beach, a haven for families. The shallow turquoise waters were perfect for the kids to splash around in, and the designated swim area ensured their safety. As parents, we appreciated the close parking, the presence of bathrooms, and the abundance of picnic tables. We even contemplated a paddleboarding adventure for our next visit as the serene lake beckoned us to explore its crystal-clear waters.
More Kid-Friendly Activities:
June Lake offers a myriad of kid-friendly activities. Gull Lake Park, with its play gyms, tennis court, and opportunities for fishing, is an absolute hit with the little ones. Watching them feed the monster trout in the pond at Gull Lake Marina and the laughter that ensues is truly heartwarming. And did I mention that kids under 16 can fish for free in the June Lake Loop during the trout season? It’s an experience that every child should have, catching their first fish in this pristine setting.
For families looking to embark on a hike, consider trails like Gull Lake Trail, Parker Lake Trail, Lundy Canyon, or the 20 Lakes Basin Trail. These hikes are suitable for young adventurers, and the breathtaking scenery will leave everyone in awe.
Our day in June Lake Loop was a tapestry of family joy, outdoor wonders, and memorable experiences. It’s a place where we discovered that adventure and relaxation can go hand in hand and where nature’s beauty enhances our family bonds. As the sun set behind the Sierra, we knew we’d be returning to June Lake for more moments like these, each one as precious as the last.
