Propane Okay Within Designated Recreation Areas
Due to high fire danger, no wood or charcoal fires are allowed at EID’s day-use facilities along Highway. 88. Propane camp stoves for cooking are okay in designated recreation areas.
As of Monday, July 26, 2021, following Forest Order 03-21-12, all EID Recreation along the Highway 88 corridor no longer allow the use of wood or charcoal fires or any apparatus with an open flame that cannot be shut off. Propane fire pits or barbecues used in a responsible fashion within designated recreation areas will be allowed. Visitors refusing to comply may be fined.
Silver Lake West Campground remains open. There is NO water service is available. Visitors should prepare for rapidly changing conditions, such as rain and lightning. Smoke impact has been unpredictable, air quality is less than desirable and visitors can expect visual impact on the hiking trails.
Check conditions before visiting these high elevation recreation areas. And as a reminder, there is little to no cell phone service.
