El Portal Road (continuation of Highway 140)into Yosemite is Closed Due to a Rockfall
Yosemite National Park – December 27, 2022- A significant rockfall occurred at approximately 9:00 am this morning on the El Portal road (Continuation of HWY 140 inside Yosemite National Park). The road is closed and will remained closed for several days as crews asses and clean up the rockfall.
The road is closed from the park boundary in El Portal to the intersection of Big Oak Flat road. Yosemite Valley is still accessible via big Oak flat road (HWY 120) and the Wawona Road Highway 41 continuation.

The atmospheric river of moisture that is currently slamming California is expected to continue into the weekend which could cause further delays in getting the road open. As the snow and rain continues through out the week rising water levels will also be a concern potentially in the park.
