A Legacy of Views, Adventure, and Sierra Community

Heavenly Mountain Resort is turning 70 this winter, and Lake Tahoe’s most iconic ski destination isn’t slowing down. Since opening in December 1955 with a single chairlift and one remarkable viewpoint above Lake Tahoe, Heavenly has grown into a 4,800-acre, two-state resort known for big terrain, big energy, and even bigger views.

Whether you’re carving down Ridge Run into Lake Tahoe’s deep-blue backdrop or venturing to the Nevada side for Carson Valley vistas, Heavenly continues to deliver experiences that define skiing in the Sierra Nevada.

This season, Heavenly celebrates 70 Years of Fun with a full lineup of events, DJ-powered après, and a look back at the history that shaped Lake Tahoe into a premiere ski destination.

A Resort That Helped Shape Tahoe

Heavenly’s story is one of growth, innovation, and unforgettable mountain scenery.

Key Stats:

  • 4,800 skiable acres across California and Nevada
  • 97 trails from groomers to glades
  • 5.5-mile Olympic Downhill as its longest run
  • Lake views and Carson Valley drop-offs at nearly every turn

Modern Heavenly blends high-speed lifts, world-class snowmaking, spring skiing culture, and some of the best nightlife and après vibes in the Sierra.

A Personal Connection to the Mountain

For many Tahoe locals and long-time Sierra residents, Heavenly is more than a place to ski.

Publisher’s Note:
I first rode the Heavenly gondola years ago, and the experience felt more like flying than a lift ride. I later volunteered here as a ranger, leading fifth graders on snowshoe tours, helping them discover winter in the Sierra for the first time. My son’s first job was on the ropes course high above Lake Tahoe. And before any of us lived here, my grandparents skied Heavenly—the view behind them the same one we celebrate today.

Generations have called Heavenly part of their story. That’s why this anniversary matters.
