CHESTER, CA — The smell of pine, the sound of chainsaws, and the cheers of the crowd—summer in Lake Almanor is officially in full swing, and there’s no better way to experience the heart and soul of Plumas County than by attending the Big Time Logging Jamboree this Saturday, June 7 at Collins Park in Chester. Summer Festivals, lake life and summer in the mountains, is there a better weekend idea? If you are looking for a fun time this weekend, book a trip to Northern California and head towards Lake Almanor for a great summer weekend.

Hosted by the Maidu Summit Consortium and proudly sponsored by Collins Pine, this annual event celebrates the deep-rooted logging history of the region with 13 live competitive events, community festivities, and the kind of small-town charm that defines life in the Sierra.
Step Into the Sierra’s Logging Legacy
If you’ve never experienced a traditional logging competition, this is your chance. Starting at noon, the day opens with a Maidu prayer and song honoring the land and people who have long cared for it. From there, the action kicks off—axe throws, log rolls, chainsaw contests, and other thrilling events fill the afternoon with old-school grit and modern skill.
With cash prizes for top competitors and a $1,000 grand prize awarded to the overall champion, the stakes are high and the energy electric. Even local businesses get in on the fun with a friendly Axe Throw challenge for bragging rights.

Food, Music & Family Fun
The Jamboree is more than just lumberjack feats—this is a full-blown Sierra celebration. Expect craft and food vendors, cold drinks courtesy of The Almanor Foundation, and a community-wide spirit of connection and cheer.
Admission is free, and all ages are welcome. Families from around the Lake Almanor Basin and beyond gather to enjoy a lifestyle rooted in nature, hard work, and shared history. Whether you’re clapping for your favorite competitor or savoring local eats under the summer sun, this is Sierra small-town culture at its finest.

Make It a Weekend in Chester & Lake Almanor
With live music this weekend at Plumas Pines Resort and the Lake Almanor Amphitheatre, plus perfect weather for boating, biking, or paddleboarding, this weekend is the perfect excuse to stay and play.

Pair your festival day with a ride around the Lake Almanor Recreation Trail, rent a kayak or SUP, or explore Chester’s downtown for a dose of mountain-town charm. Summer weekends here are all about slowing down, soaking up the sun, and sharing great moments with friends and family. May we Recommend a stop over at Carols Place in Prattville while in town for a slice of pie or ice cream? A summer cocktail from the Deck at Plumas Pines Resort, or an evening of Golf at one of the exciting Golf courses that surround the lake.
Of Course if you get in town early you might hook up with Big Daddy Fishing Guides or Wake Almanor for a little lake surfing while in town.
