A Disappointment for Lake Tahoe Campers
We’ve received some unfortunate news from California State Parks: D.L. Bliss State Park will remain closed for camping and partially closed for day use into summer 2025. This extended closure is necessary to complete essential waterline infrastructure replacement that they started last winter.

What Does This Mean for Campers?
- No Camping Reservations: Campground reservations for the 2025 season at D.L. Bliss State Park will not be available until further notice.
- Limited Day Use: While some day-use areas like Lester Beach and Calawee Cove will remain open for water access and foot traffic, the park’s full amenities will be unavailable.
- Backcountry Access: Portions of the park west of Highway 89 will still be accessible for winter backcountry use.
- Bouldering and Rock Climbing: Popular climbing areas will reopen in 2025 with walk-in access from designated parking.
The following day-use areas remain accessible:
- Lester Beach and Calawee Cove: These areas will remain open for water access from Lake Tahoe and foot access via the Rubicon Trail from Emerald Bay State Park.
- Backcountry Areas: Portions of D.L. Bliss State Park west of Highway 89 will continue to be available for winter backcountry use.
- Bouldering/Rock-Climbing Areas: Popular bouldering and rock-climbing sites located just east of Highway 89, closed for the past two seasons, will reopen in 2025 for walk-in access from designated roadside parking areas.
Please note: No restroom or trash services will be available at these locations. Visitors are encouraged to practice “Leave No Trace” principles to minimize environmental impact. Due to construction activities on the park roadways, emergency response vehicle access may be limited, and response times could be delayed.
Plan Your Tahoe Adventure
While this news is disappointing, there are still plenty of other great camping and outdoor recreation opportunities in the Lake Tahoe area.
- Emerald Bay State Park: This iconic park is expected to be fully open in summer 2025 and offers stunning lake views, hiking trails, and a historic lodge.
- Ed Z’berg Sugar Pine Point State Park: This park is another excellent option for camping and day use, with beautiful beaches, forests, and picnic areas.
We encourage you to check the D.L. Bliss State Park webpage for the latest updates and information. In the meantime, let’s all do our part to respect the park and its resources.
Stay tuned for more updates and tips on planning your Lake Tahoe adventure.
