About The Great Reno Balloon Race
The mission of The Great Reno Balloon Race is simple yet inspiring: to provide a premier, safe, family-oriented, and visually dramatic event that celebrates the joy of flight—all while remaining free to the public.
What began in 1982 with just 20 balloons has soared into a world-renowned event that now features up to 100 hot air balloons each year. From September 6th to 8th, 2024, join over 150,000 spectators at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park, just a few miles north of downtown Reno, to witness a breathtaking display of color and creativity. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, this is an event that touches the hearts of young and old alike.
Event Highlights
- Super Glow Show: Starting at 5:00 a.m. each morning, watch as over 35 balloons light up the pre-dawn sky in a synchronized glow to music—a mesmerizing start to the day.
- Dawn Patrol: Watch in awe as skilled balloonists navigate the dark skies before sunrise, their balloons twinkling and glowing in a breathtaking display.
- Mass Ascension Launch: Each morning at 7:00 a.m., witness the grand spectacle of nearly 100 balloons taking to the skies in unison—a truly unforgettable sight.
