Geothermal Pipeline Maintenance to Impact Roads and Trails Near Shady Rest Park in Mammoth Lakes

MAMMOTH LAKES, Calif. — Beginning September 30, 2024, essential geothermal pipeline maintenance will cause temporary road and trail closures near Shady Rest Park in Mammoth Lakes, impacting popular routes such as Sawmill Road, Highway 203, and the Knolls Loop Trail. This 8-week infrastructure project is critical to maintaining the safe and reliable operation of the geothermal energy system in the region.

Every effort will be made to minimize disruptions during the project. However, to accommodate the work zone and ensure public safety, temporary road and trail closures will be implemented. Clearly marked detour routes will be provided to allow pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicular traffic to navigate around the work areas including a detour for The Knolls Loop Trail north of Shady Rest Park.

During the maintenance period, detours will be provided for pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles, with a specific detour in place for the Knolls Loop Trail. All detour routes will be clearly marked, ensuring minimal disruption to those navigating the area.

This map shows the temporary detour for Knolls Loop Trail to use during the geothermal pipeline maintenance. Please follow detour route shown on map and detour signs.

The public is advised to follow construction signage and exercise caution. Patience and cooperation are appreciated as these necessary upgrades are completed.
