Northstar California Resort Launches New “Little Gems of the Sierra” Winter Weekend & Holiday Childcare Program

As the winter season approaches, Northstar California Resort is introducing a fantastic new offering for families in the Tahoe Truckee community and visitors alike. In partnership with Little Gems of the Sierra, Northstar is launching a Winter Weekend and Holiday Childcare Program, designed to provide early-childhood education services during weekends and holidays. This exciting new program will run from December 9, 2024, through April 7, 2025, offering care for children ages 2 to 5 years old.

Expanded Childcare for Busy Families

The Winter Weekend and Holiday Program will operate on over 40 days of weekends and holidays from 8:15 AM to 3:30 PM, providing a flexible and much-needed option for families during the busiest times of the year. Whether you’re a local resident or a visitor looking to enjoy the slopes, this program ensures that your little ones are well cared for while you explore all that Northstar has to offer.

This new offering builds on the success of Little Gems’ year-round early-childhood education program, which began earlier this year in Northstar’s Village. Serving children from 3 months to kindergarten age, Little Gems has already become a beloved fixture in the community, and its preschool class for ages 3 and up currently has openings for enrollment.

A Holistic Approach to Early-Childhood Education

Little Gems of the Sierra, a non-profit early-childhood Waldorf program, brings a holistic approach that nurtures young children’s cognitive, emotional, and physical development. By focusing on the “head, heart, and hands,” Little Gems fosters an enriching environment for children to grow and thrive. As part of the partnership, Little Gems will also continue offering ski lessons for children ages 3 and up through Northstar’s Ski School, adding a unique outdoor learning element to the curriculum.

Andorra Fierro, Director of Little Gems, shared her excitement about the collaboration: “We are thrilled to offer this new weekend and holiday option for families. It’s heartening to see the Tahoe Truckee community and Northstar come together to support these programs, and the positive impact on both the children and the community has already been remarkable.”

A Commitment to the Community

This partnership between Northstar and Little Gems reflects a deep commitment to addressing key community needs, such as accessible childcare for families. It also offers a valuable service for Northstar employees who require childcare during the busy winter season. The collaboration has been supported by the Martis Camp Foundation and the Tahoe Mountain Resort Foundation, further underscoring the shared effort to enhance early-childhood education and community-based recreation in the North Lake Tahoe region.

Doug Burnett, Director of Base Area Operations at Northstar, emphasized the importance of initiatives like this: “These programs are essential to building a sustainable, thriving community, and we’re proud to partner with Little Gems to provide such a vital service at Northstar.”
