Truckee Ca. – Last night, the Truckee Trails Association, alongside the Tahoe National Forest, held a vibrant ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of the Sawtooth Loop Trail in the Sawtooth Day Use Recreational Area. This trail is a winding single-track loop through a mix of high desert and Jeffrey Pine Forest. It gains and loses the same 200 feet numerous times throughout its course. Some of the standout features of this trail are the two overlooks into the Truckee River Canyon, and the available connectivity to other routes on the Mt. Watson trail network. This new addition enhances an already impressive network of trails in the heart of Truckee, providing outdoor enthusiasts with even more opportunities to explore the stunning landscapes of the region.

The Sawtooth Loop Trail introduces an exciting 11-mile loop to a network of trails that now offers over 30 miles of trail area, perfect for hiking, mountain biking, e-biking, and family outings. Riders are treated to a beautiful canopy of pine and ponderosa while navigating the ridges near Bald Mountain. One standout feature besides the gorgeous setting among the Jeffery Pine trees is the beginner pump track, designed to help new mountain bikers learn essential skills for navigating the forest trails with confidence.

As we roamed the area, capturing footage and photos, we were thrilled to witness a diverse crowd enjoying the trails—mountain bikers, joggers, and hikers all relishing the fresh air and scenic views. Jack Macy, Director of the Truckee Trails Association, expressed his gratitude to the many volunteers and partners who dedicated their time and expertise to bring this project to fruition. Their collective effort was evident in the trail’s quality and design.
The Tahoe National Forest trail team was also in attendance, commending the Truckee Trails Association for their speed and efficiency in completing this remarkable trail. As the evening unfolded, attendees shared stories of their experiences on the new trail and discussed future possibilities, including cross-country skiing opportunities when the snow arrives.
With the Sawtooth Loop Trail now open, both locals and visitors have a prime destination for outdoor adventures. Whether you’re looking for a leisurely family outing or an exhilarating mountain biking experience, this new trail is sure to become a favorite spot.
