By Sierra Rec Magazine – National Parks Travel Update | Sequoia & Kings Canyon

As the gateway weekends of summer approach, here’s a timely heads-up for anyone planning a road trip to Sequoia or Kings Canyon National Parks: Beginning May 21, 2025, both parks will officially transition to a fully cashless fee system.

That’s right—no more cash accepted at entrance stations. So whether you’re headed to marvel at General Sherman or explore the granite-walled splendor of Kings Canyon, you’ll need to come prepared with a debit card, credit card, or mobile payment option in hand.

Why the Switch?

According to the National Park Service, going cashless improves efficiency at entrance stations and reduces the risk of theft or handling errors. But more importantly for visitors—it means shorter wait times at the gate and quicker access to the trees, trails, and towering wonders you came to see.

💡 What If You Only Have Cash?

No problem—Sequoia and Kings Canyon have partnered with five nearby vendors where you can still purchase a park pass using cash. So if you’re traveling without cards or digital wallets, just make a quick stop in one of these local spots before entering the park:

✅ Local Third-Party Vendor Locations:

  • Foothills Visitor Center (Sequoia Parks Conservancy)
47050 Generals Hwy #10, Three Rivers, CA
  • Kaweah Arts
42249 Sierra Dr., Three Rivers, CA
  • Three Rivers Historical Museum

📍 These vendors are near both the Ash Mountain and Big Stump entrances and make for great pit stops before your park adventure.
