Visitors to Spooner Lake State Park should be aware of several important trail closures and safety updates starting this month due to ongoing construction and a recent gas leak.

🚧 Trail Closures for Dam and Pipeline Replacements:

Beginning Monday, October 21, 2024, multiple trails from the Lakeview Trailhead to the Tahoe Rim Trail will be closed for a dam and water pipeline replacement project. This significant construction effort, managed by a Nevada State Public Works Division contractor, is expected to last through October 2025.

  • Pipeline Road

  • Snapdragon Trail
  • Hanna’s Cabin Trail
  • East Tunnel Portal
  • Red House Flume Road
Marlette Lake

Backcountry Closure Due to Gas Leak:

In addition to the above closures, the backcountry area near Hobart Reservoir is temporarily closed due to a high-pressure gas leak. On October 14, 2024, a contractor’s crew working on the dam and pipeline project accidentally damaged a gas line, resulting in a hazardous leak. As a precaution, the area between Marlette Lake and Hobart Reservoir is closed until further notice. Authorities are working to resolve the issue, but visitors are advised to avoid this section of the park for their safety.

Open Trails and Areas:

Despite the closures, several key trails and areas remain open for normal use, allowing for continued outdoor enjoyment:
