Celebrate 20 Years of Pedal-Powered Adventure: Tahoe Bike Month Returns This June
By Charlie Pankey | Sierra Rec Magazine
There’s a rhythm that builds in Lake Tahoe when the snow clears and the trails open. It’s not the hum of traffic or the splash of boats—but the steady, joyful whir of bike tires hitting pavement and trail. And come June 1st, the community will once again come together to celebrate that rhythm with the 20th annual Tahoe Bike Month—a month-long celebration of biking, healthy living, and stewardship of Tahoe’s treasured landscapes.
Whether you’re a year-round local or a summer visitor looking for a different kind of adventure, Tahoe Bike Month offers a fresh invitation: leave the car behind, hop on your bike, and experience Lake Tahoe from the saddle.
Why Bike Tahoe?
Organized by the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition and the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA), this year’s event marks two decades of promoting biking as a way to not only explore but also protect the Lake Tahoe Basin. Every ride logged this month helps raise awareness for sustainable travel and gets us one step closer to cleaner air and healthier forests.
“Each bike trip helps reduce traffic congestion, improves air quality, and preserves the natural beauty of Lake Tahoe,” said TRPA’s transportation planner Rachael Shaw. “We’re proud to celebrate biking at Tahoe in partnership with local organizations and businesses.”
Pedal, Play, and Win
Register for free at TahoeBikeMonth.org with your Strava profile to enter this friendly ride challenge. You’ll earn points every day you ride, with each ride doubling as an entry into a month-long raffle. Local businesses are pitching in with fun prizes—culminating in the ultimate reward: a brand-new e-bike from Outdoor Gear Lab.
This year’s lineup includes community rides, trail cleanups, school challenges, bike workshops, and more—all designed to encourage everyone from weekend riders to die-hard cyclists to get outside and participate.

Biking is for Everyone
“Tahoe Bike Month is for everyone, from young kids to seniors,” said Nick Speal, president of the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition. “You don’t have to ride around the lake to participate. Just getting on a local path, exploring a new neighborhood, or choosing your bike over your car for errands makes a difference.”
And that’s the heart of Tahoe Bike Month—it’s not just about fitness or fun (though there’s plenty of both). It’s about the choice to ride. To move differently. To connect more deeply with the place we all love.
Why It Matters
Since 2009, the Lake Tahoe Environmental Improvement Program and its partners have built or improved over 200 miles of pedestrian and bike routes, making biking safer and more accessible. Every mile ridden this June helps keep that momentum going—supporting long-term sustainability goals, cleaner air, and a more connected community.
Ready to Roll?
Pump up those tires, tighten your helmet straps, and explore Tahoe one ride at a time. Whether you’re pedaling along the shores of the lake, exploring singletrack in the pines, or just cruising to your favorite lunch spot, Tahoe Bike Month is your ticket to fun, fitness, and community connection.
