Lake Tahoe’s bike community just proved what many of us know: biking in the Sierra isn’t just recreation—it’s a movement.

This June, the 20th Annual Tahoe Bike Month smashed participation records, drawing 511 residents and visitors who logged 10,880 bike trips, pedaled 80,982 miles, and climbed nearly 5.6 million vertical feet. That’s an 18% increase over last year, the biggest turnout in the event’s two-decade history.

A Celebration of Tahoe’s Bike Culture

Organized by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) and the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition, Tahoe Bike Month offered nearly 30 bike-friendly events throughout June, including bike path cleanups, repair pop-ups, and the annual Pride Ride. It’s all part of a growing effort to shift Tahoe’s transportation culture away from car dependency toward cleaner, community-connected alternatives.

“Bike Month brings our community together, encouraging new riders and celebrating everyday commuters, while adding some friendly competition along the way,” said Rebecca Cremeen, senior transportation planner at TRPA. “Each year, we see more people choosing to bike, not just for recreation, but for trips to school, work, and running errands.”

From family riders tackling morning errands on two wheels to athletes logging massive climbs, participants tracked their rides at TahoeBikeMonth.org, competing for prizes donated by local Tahoe businesses.

Notable Achievements from Tahoe Bike Month 2025

  • Top Team: Competitive Commuters (162 points)
  • Most Rides: Druin Roberts (161 trips)
  • Elevation Leader: Bob Larsen (94,134 feet climbed)
  • Distance Champion: Joshua Hutchens (1,167 miles)
  • Biggest Ride: Druin Roberts (288 miles, 16,955 feet climbing)

“Every mile ridden helps demonstrate the need for continued investments in safer, more connected bike routes—advancing our mission, alongside TRPA, to make it easier and more enjoyable to get around Tahoe on two wheels,” said Nick Speal, Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition President.
