Weekend events include firework show, parade and local merchant events
Virginia City, Nev. – Virginia City celebrates Independence Day weekend with a series of events, from Thursday, July 4 through Sunday, July 7, welcoming visitors to enjoy a full schedule of patriotic activities. The highlight of the festivities, the Fourth of July on the Comstock, will feature a parade at noon followed by a free evening concert and then fireworks at dusk. Additional weekend events around town will include intimate fireworks watch parties, a comedy show, historic demonstrations and more. “We look forward to welcoming everyone to Virginia City for a festive and safe Independence Day weekend,” said Todd Tuttle, tourism director in Virginia City. “Along with our parade and fireworks spectacular, many of our merchants will have their own activities to celebrate this historic holiday. We offer unprecedented views, unique opportunities to celebrate our history and a weekend full of exciting events. From live music to historic tours, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.”
The holiday kicks off with a parade at noon down C Street followed by a concert by David Johns & The Comstock Cowboys at 6 p.m. The Fireworks Spectacular, a 30-minute show, starts at dusk. Merchants will host additional events throughout town, including:
● ‘Fireworks and S’mores’ at Mackay Mansion Museum at 7 p.m. The event includes s’mores and a viewing of the Virginia City firework show from the mansion’s balcony. Tickets are $35 per person and are available online at therealmackaymansion.com.
● The Fourth Ward School will hold an exclusive fireworks watch party from its balcony, with doors opening at 7:30 p.m. Tickets include live music, food, one beverage to start the night and free parking. For more information and ticket prices, visit fourthwardschool.org.
● For a more intimate setting, visitors can also head to St. Mary’s Art Center for live music by Kevin Keith, a silent auction, catered appetizers, drinks and a firework show. Ticket information and membership options are available at stmarysartcenter.org.

Celebratory events will continue throughout the weekend, including:
● Tours of the Territorial Enterprise from Thursday, July 4 through Sunday, July 7. Tours will include presentations of Nevada authors and printing press demonstrations for children.
● Red Dog Saloon will have live music by Front Porch on Friday, July 5 starting at 7 p.m. This local band offers a mix of renegade bluegrass, roots and acoustic performances.
● Piper’s Opera House, in partnership with Reno Tahoe Comedy, presents comedian and actor Craig Shoemaker from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, July 6 Tickets start at $29 and can be purchased at pipersoperahouse.com.
