Capture the wild, win new gear, and celebrate the artistry of adventure

July 27, 2025 – Sierra Rec Magazine – Hiking boots meet camera lenses this summer as Oboz Footwear and Flickr team up to launch a new global photo contest and immersive outdoor event to honor World Photography Day on August 19. For Sierra Nevada adventurers who find inspiration behind both the lens and the laces, this is a chance to celebrate the landscapes you love and share the stories that come from them.

The collaboration kicks off with a free photo hike on August 8 along San Francisco’s Lands’ End Trail—a coastal path known for its dramatic views and creative spark. Hosted by Flickr’s Global Brand Manager Alastair Jolly, the 3.4-mile guided trek includes hands-on photo tips, surprise moments, and a chance to test out the new Oboz Hyalite Collection.

Following the hike, the World Photography Day Global Photo Contest will open to all photographers from August 8–25, welcoming images that reflect the raw, beautiful, and often unpredictable nature of our world—something Sierra explorers know well.

Contest Categories Include:

  • Earth Unfiltered – Landscapes, seascapes, night skies, and high-country wonder.
  • Wild at Heart – Portraits and lifestyle images that tell a story.
  • Animal Kingdom – From the backyard to the backcountry, capture creatures in their element.
  • Built Environment – The interaction between wild terrain and human creativity.
  • Off the Map – Artistic, unconventional, or experimental shots.

Winners in each category will receive a pair of Oboz shoes from the new Hyalite line and a one-year Flickr Pro subscription.

For Oboz, a company rooted in Bozeman, Montana and inspired by the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, this partnership is a natural fit. “With Flickr we’re celebrating the intersection of adventure and artistry,” says Abigail Cook, Marketing and ESG Manager at Oboz. “Whether it’s along the Sierra Crest or a quiet moment at a hidden alpine lake, great footwear—and a good eye—can capture the soul of the outdoors.”

Both brands are proud members of The Conservation Alliance, aligning with Sierra Rec’s own commitment to wild spaces and sustainable exploration.
