Calling all creative minds! Do you dream of waking up to breathtaking mountain vistas and spending your days immersed in the beauty of the Plumas National Forest? If so, then the Artist in the Lookout program is the perfect opportunity for you.

The Plumas National Forest and Plumas Arts have joined forces for the eighth year running to offer a unique residency program at the Black Mountain Lookout . Selected artists will have the chance to spend three inspiring nights at the lookout, surrounded by nature’s majesty.

This isn’t just a vacation, though! In exchange for this incredible experience, artists will be asked to donate an original piece of work inspired by their time in the lookout. They’ll also collaborate with Plumas Arts to present their work to the public in November 2024.

Here’s why you should apply:

  • Unparalleled Inspiration: Immerse yourself in the stunning landscapes of the Plumas National Forest and let the beauty ignite your creativity.
  • Unique Opportunity: Spend three unforgettable nights at the historic Black Mountain Lookout, a place steeped in history and breathtaking views.
  • Give Back to the Community: Share your artistic vision with the public through a presentation and contribute a lasting piece of art to the program.

What are they looking for?

The program seeks artists who can use their talents to explore the connection between people and the Plumas National Forest. They’re open to a variety of mediums, including:

  • Visual art (2D or 3D)
  • Poetry
  • Short prose

Think you have what it takes? Here’s how to apply:

  • Applications are due by Friday, May 31, 2024, with selections announced by June 15th.
  • The application process is easy! You’ll need to submit information about your artwork, background, and ideas for your public presentation.
  • For visual artists, there’s an additional step: deliver two samples of your work to the Plumas Arts Gallery between May 29th and 31st.
