Some trails leave us yearning for more, wishing we had taken just a few more steps or spent a little more time soaking in the views. Our list of incredible trail experiences we’d like to revisit includes some of our most memorable hikes, each one deserving of a second (or third) look.
Whether it’s taking a detour we missed, spending an extra night under the stars, or simply savoring the moment a little longer, these are the trails we can’t wait to revisit. Here are ten incredible trail experiences that we’d love to do again—this time, with a few extra touches.

1. High Trail Loop, Carson Iceberg Wilderness
The High Trail Loop in the Carson Iceberg Wilderness offers stunning vistas, serene meadows, and a sense of solitude. On our last visit, we couldn’t shake the feeling of wanting to explore more of the side trails that branched off the main loop. Next time, we plan to extend our trip, allowing for deeper exploration and perhaps a sunset picnic at one of the secluded spots along the way.
2. Mono Pass to Parker Pass to Spillway Lake Loop
This loop is a high-altitude adventure that showcases the stark beauty of the eastern Sierra. The journey from Mono Pass to Parker Pass and then to Spillway Lake was awe-inspiring, but we left wishing we had taken more time to explore the alpine lakes and ridges that beckoned us from the main trail. A longer stay at Spillway Lake, with some off-trail scrambling, is definitely on the agenda for our next visit.

3. Vogelsang to Ireland Lake to Lyell Canyon Loop
The loop from Vogelsang to Ireland Lake and then down to Lyell Canyon is a trek through some of Yosemite’s most picturesque landscapes. While the beauty of Ireland Lake captivated us, we regretted not camping there to watch the sunrise over the water. Our future plans include an overnight stay at Ireland Lake and an early morning hike into Lyell Canyon.
4. May Lake to Glen Aulin, Back Down Murphy’s Creek Loop
This trail offers a mix of alpine lakes, granite peaks, and lush meadows. On our last hike, we moved too quickly through Murphy’s Creek, missing out on some prime spots for wildlife watching and relaxation. Next time, we’ll take it slower, setting aside more time for fishing, photography, and perhaps a swim in the creek’s crystal-clear pools.

5. Bucks Lake Wilderness Loop
The Bucks Lake Wilderness Loop is a hidden gem with its dense forests and tranquil lakes. We’ve hiked this loop before but felt we could have spent more time exploring the lesser-known areas off the beaten path. Our next adventure here will include more off-trail exploration, seeking out the hidden corners of this wilderness.
6. Loon Lake to Echo Lake, Desolation Wilderness Cross
Traversing from Loon Lake to Echo Lake in the Desolation Wilderness is a challenging but rewarding journey. The dramatic landscapes of granite and alpine terrain are mesmerizing, yet we missed out on camping at some prime spots. Future plans include a multi-day trip with strategic campsites to fully soak in the beauty of the Desolation Wilderness.

7. Lyell Canyon to Devils Postpile
The hike from Lyell Canyon to Devils Postpile combines stunning meadows with geological wonders. Unable to yet obtain this permit has left left us wanting. To be able to extend our day trips into Lyell Canyon or up into Ansel Adams Wilderness exploring the side canyons and spend an evening stargazing near Garnet Lake.
8. Tahoe to Yosemite
This long-distance trek is a bucket-list item for many hikers, offering diverse landscapes from Lake Tahoe to Yosemite Valley. While we have yet to complete the trail, we have day tripped multiple sections that deserved more attention. This dream trip is yet to come, but is one we are training for and planning out as we move forward.

9. Hetch Hetchy to Grand Canyon of Yosemite
The route from Hetch Hetchy to the Grand Canyon of Yosemite is a less-traveled path with incredible scenery. This might be just above our ability level, but it sure sounds like an incredible journey. imagine climbing the Water source of California Central Valley from Hetch Hetchy to Tuolumne Meadows in an epic waterfall featured trek in the deepest reaches of Yosemite.
10. Virginia Lakes to Green Creek Loop
This loop offers stunning alpine scenery and peaceful solitude. On our previous hike, we didn’t take enough time to explore the side valleys and hidden lakes that dot the area. Next time, we’ll plan for more days on the trail, ensuring we can uncover all the hidden treasures this loop has to offer.
These trails are more than just paths through the wilderness—they are experiences that linger in our minds and hearts, calling us back for more. As we look forward to revisiting these incredible places, we’re excited to add new layers to our adventures, savoring every moment and making memories that will last a lifetime. The Sierra Nevada always has more to offer, and we can’t wait to discover what’s next.
