There’s nothing quite like summer on the South Shore—and if you’ve been here before, you know there’s no bigger week on Lake Tahoe’s calendar than the American Century Championship at Edgewood Tahoe. For four days each July, this world-class golf course transforms into a high-energy, star-studded playground where sports legends, Hollywood icons, and fans from all over converge on the fairways (and beaches) of Tahoe.
This year, from July 9–13, the 36th annual event is shaping up to be one of the most memorable yet. If you haven’t already made plans, now’s the time. Here’s why.

A Star-Packed Lineup That’s Still Growing
With more than 80 celebrity athletes and entertainers already committed—and more to be announced—this year’s field reads like a highlight reel of sports history and pop culture.
Returning to the greens:
- Stephen Curry, the 2023 champion, is back after winning Olympic gold last year.
- Annika Sorenstam, golf legend and perennial contender, brings elite competition to Edgewood.
- NFL MVP Josh Allen, Aaron Rodgers, Travis and Jason Kelce, Tony Romo, and George Kittle promise big swings and even bigger crowds.
- Comedic icons like Larry the Cable Guy, Ray Romano, and Colin Jost round out the entertainment side.
Notable first-time participants include Rich Eisen, Cathy Engelbert (WNBA Commissioner), and a growing list of crossover stars.
More Than a Tournament—It’s a Tahoe Experience
Whether you’re coming for the golf or the atmosphere, this is one event that delivers both. Picture this:
- Watching NFL Hall-of-Famers like Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith, and Steve Young tee off with snow-capped peaks in the distance.
- Walking the shoreline fairways with fans, celebrities, and media.
- Enjoying Tahoe’s lakefront nightlife after a day of championship play.
Don’t be surprised if you catch Charles Barkley cracking jokes in the rough or witness another viral moment at the par-3 17th hole, known for spontaneous crowd energy and playful showmanship.

What’s New in 2025
- Stephen Curry’s return after his gold-medal year is one of the biggest stories. His 2023 victory included a hole-in-one and dramatic eagle putt on 18.
- A stronger women’s field adds new voices to the fairway with Dylan Dreyer, Kathryn Tappen, and WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert joining Annika Sorenstam.
- More first-time athletes from across sports bring fresh energy and competition to the leaderboard.
- Expanded TV coverage across NBC, Peacock, and GOLF Channel allows fans to follow every round, every putt, and every viral moment.
- The tournament continues to support charitable causes, with more than $8 million donated to nonprofits since 1990.

Final Swing
The American Century Championship is more than just a golf event. It’s a celebration of summer in Lake Tahoe—where mountain views, championship-level golf, and celebrity culture collide in one unforgettable weekend. Whether you’re a returning fan or first-time visitor, this is your invitation to be part of one of the most scenic and energetic stops on the sports calendar.
The tournament’s format and setting perfectly complement the Tahoe vibe, with players and galleries enjoying beachfront and mountain views between the action during the day and the 24- hour lifestyle throughout the evenings.
The 2025 American Century Championship will utilize the Modified Stableford format whereby points are awarded by score per hole. Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, a George Fazio design, has been rated by Golf Digest Magazine as one of “America’s Top 100 Golf Courses.”
The event will be televised by NBC Sports, GOLF Channel and Peacock over the course of the three days.
American Century Investments, the title sponsor of the championship since 1999, continues its role in partnership with NBC Sports, the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority, Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course and the South Tahoe community.
